Here’s a few tiny changes that you can make to help keep plastic out of the oceans, landfills, save sea life and our own lives.
PLASTIC WRAP ALTERNATIVE
I just received my Bee’s Wrap the other day. I’m so excited because I won’t need to use plastic wrap anymore to keep my food. The wraps come in all different sizes (I bought two of the variety packs). They are made from pure beeswax, jojoba oil, and tree resin infused into a fabric made of hemp and certified organic cotton. These natural wrappers:
Allow your food to breathe, and therefore improving the flavor.
Slow down decomposition which helps you keep your food longer…less wasted food!
Should last you about a year if you treat ’em right!
To clean them? Wash your Abeego in cold water with an eco-friendly dish soap and allow it to dry.
PLASTIC TOOTHBRUSH ALTERNATIVE
If you’re still using a plastic toothbrush, you’ll probably be disappointed to hear that the majority of them end up in the ocean and on beaches. It’s just a fact. So, the best thing to do is avoid them altogether and get yourself a compostable 100% bamboo toothbrush. These toothbrushes also have compostable packaging and BPA-free bristles. I’m absolutely loving mine and there’s nothing like knowing that you’re not contributing to our plastic crisis on this planet, right? Plus, they look beautiful!
PLASTIC STRAW ALTERNATIVE
In the last 25 years, over 6 million straws and stirrers were removed from beaches during annual cleaning events. Isn’t that disgusting and irresponsible? Plus, straws rank in the Top 10 for Marine Debris. It’s crazy to me how bars and restaurants just automatically throw a straw (or two) into every drink nowadays. I like to say “No straw, please, I have my own.” If I’m out and I order a smoothie, I usually need a straw, so I take out my glass one. It’s absolutely gorgeous and I can’t imagine the amount of plastic that I have saved from bringing my own. Now, if you have kids, you might want to get a bunch of aluminum ones. They’re so inexpensive and everything tastes better, too. Plus, if you read about what plastic straws are made of, you most likely won’t want your drink passing through them, anyway!
