Sick of seeing abandoned Starbucks cups? Yeah, me, too. So far, KeepCup has removed 292,848 disposable cups from circulation.
Ah, this gorgeous specimen! I just discovered this today on some brilliant 21-year old’s instagram feed. She was so excited that she received her order of the KeepCup and her stainless steel straws. Needless to say, I’d like to be her friend.
Why the KeepCup? Oh, gosh, there’s so many reasons and because I know that people generally don’t love to read, I’ll sum it up for you:
- Over 58 billion disposable cups are discarded to landfills, so that’s, 158 disposable cups for every US inhabitant…gross.
- We’re ripping about 4 billion trees out of the ground for paper products…sad.
- Your coffee/tea-cup is most likely lined with polyethylene, so it won’t be recycled so it’ll end up in a landfill.
- Litter is a big issue. How many of these cups do you see thrown on the ground or left in stores on shelves?
- What about those plastic lids? Yeah, about 700-1,000 years to biodegrade. In a word? Senseless. In another word? Unacceptable.
I hope I’ve made my case. If you’re a coffee or tea drinker, how gorgeous would this be to pop in your bag and bring to your local Starbucks or coffee-house? Think of what you can save in a year for the planet? I’m not a coffee drinker, but I know the majority of people out there are…so why not? If you know one, and you need a gift, get one. Oh, and I’m LOVING the cork ones.
So, if you’re a disposable cup kinda person, think differently. The cup, plastic lid…it’s all no good. Plus, we’re smarter than this. It’s 2015, what worked in the past isn’t working anymore. Let’s make a shift and do this. We don’t have the luxury of convenience anymore, I’m sorry. This planet is filling up with garbage and plastic. Plus, this damn cup is just sexy…don’t you agree?
