Super “has it all together” Tina from Eighth + Wild tagged me for the “Fall In Love” questionnaire. I am to answer 23 questions about myself (originally created as a match making experiment by the NYT). I should note that Megan of Dream & Scheme started this game. So, here goes…
1. Given the choice of anyone in the world, whom would you want as a dinner guest? My future husband. I’m excited to meet him.
2. Would you like to be famous? In what way? No, I don’t think so anymore. When I was younger, I was up for things on MTV and VH1 and stuff like that, but I look now and there’s nothing like walking around in the city and having no one bother you (although in NYC, someone is always going to come up and bother you, regardless of who you are). I’ve been to plenty of places where there’ve been famous people and it’s just always such a weird dynamic – they’re uncomfortable, everyone around them is uncomfortable, just ick. There just doesn’t seem to be anything genuine about it.
3. Before making a telephone call, do you ever rehearse what you are going to say? Why? I think the only time I do that is when I have bad news for someone. Thankfully, that’s not that often, so I’m good.
4. What would constitute a “perfect” day for you? Waking up in a place like Turks and Caicos or some gorgeous island with turquoise waters, having a delicious fresh juice and spending the day laughing in the water with friends.
5. When did you last sing to yourself? To someone else? Uhm…yesterday, to myself. while making kale chips (my latest obsession). To someone else? Probably this past weekend when I went to brunch with my friends. It’s not serious singing, it’s kind of improvising a song about whatever funny thing is happening.
6. If you were able to live to the age of 90 and retain either the mind or body of a 30-year-old for the last 60 years of your life, which would you want? Body. Seeing people not being about to get around looks absolutely heartbreaking to me. I need to be able to move. I think I’d like a break from my mind actually. I obsess a bit too much.
7. Do you have a secret hunch about how you will die? Yeah, have you seen Gone With the Wind? When Scarlett falls down that gorgeous staircase? Yeah, nothing like that. I’m hoping a little less dramatic, yet still something people will talk about. (smiles)
8. For what in your life do you feel most grateful? My best friends. Honestly, if not for them, I wouldn’t have been able to get through many things in my life. I thank the Universe for them on the daily.
9. If you could change anything about the way you were raised, what would it be? *Please visit my various therapists for the answer.
10. In four sentences, tell your life story in as much detail as possible. She is a feisty middle child of five who learned to make people laugh very early on. She made many people laugh. She might have trusted a bit too much. She ends up smarter, happier and gets everything she worked so hard towards (hey, if I get to make the ending, I might as well make it Disney-ish).
11. If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one quality or ability, what would it be? The ability to heal sick children.
12. If a crystal ball could tell you the truth about yourself, your life, the future or anything else, what would you want to know?
I’d like to know more about my future. Although, the thought of knowing that scares the hell out of me at the same time.
13. Is there something that you’ve dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven’t you done it? No, I think that anything that I haven’t done is because I really didn’t fully want to. I might kid myself, “Gosh, I wish I did that.” But, upon further inspection, I probably would’ve if I really wanted to. I’m working towards a lot of what I want right now.
14. What is the greatest accomplishment of your life? I’m hoping it hasn’t happened yet. If it has, I’m in trouble.
15. What do you value most in a friendship? Honesty. I love nothing more than a real person. When I find someone has been untruthful or is disingenuous, I lose all interest…and quick!
16. What is your most treasured memory? Anytime in which I felt truly loved and supported.
17. What is your most terrible memory? Probably a breakup I went through many, many years ago. I knew I was losing an amazing person, but the wonderful ending is that he’s now my best friend for over 20 years!
18. If you knew that in one year you would die suddenly, would you change anything about the way you are now living? Why? Yeah, I would. I think I’d move to an island somewhere and just hang out by the water…but make my friends move with me.
19. What does friendship mean to you? I means always being there for someone when they need you. Every. Single. Time. Really, that’s just it.
20. What roles do love and affection play in your life? Love, or lack thereof, rules everything and I love affection when I’m in a relationship. Nothing will make you feel better in the world than love and a great hug.
21. Share an embarrassing moment in your life. When I hurt someone’s feelings, by accident, many years ago. I can’t even get into it…ugh!
22. What, if anything, is too serious to be joked about? Too many things to mention. Honestly, if you know that someone might be uncomfortable with something, you just stay clear. We all have our stuff, so be kind. I find that’s something that seriously lacking these days: pure kindness and empathy. Everything is, sadly, fair game and it’s just tearing people up. There needs to be boundaries, limits, more respect for one another and compassion. Empathy is out of style and it seems mean is in. I’m waiting for the turn-around.
23. Your house, containing everything you own, catches fire. After saving your loved ones, pets, and necessities, you have time to safely make a final dash to save any one item. What would it be? Why? Laptop. Why? Because I’m addicted to my tech crack just like everybody else, that’s why!
